THE PIC DU MIDI REVOLUTION CONTINUES
The emblematic peak of the Pyrenees, a Grand Site Occitanie, is continuing its revolution with the opening of its new Espace Expériences space, a true immersion in the starry world of the famous astronomic observatory.
After the creation of Europe's highest planetarium in the Baillaud Cupola and the opening of the Pontoon in the Sky in early 2018 along with the new restaurant, "Le 2 877", it's now the turn of the Pic du Midi museum to undergo a complete revamp and make way for the Espace Expériences.
In an exhibition area of 500 m2, visitors are led into the world of the Pic du Midi. They begin the journey with the scientific adventure, then discover the Pic du Midi's International Dark Sky Reserve (the first in France), ending with a look at the instruments and historic objects used on the Pic du Midi. With a number of interactive experiences, digital media and immersive films, this is a whole new way to get to know the Pic du Midi.
This project is part of a vast programme to modernise and refurbish the site for a total cost of 7 M€ financed by Europe, the French State, the Occitania Region, the Hautes-Pyrénées department and a loan from Crédit Agricole Pyrénées Gascogne.
